Workplace
Injuries
The most common
and serious mistake made by workers injured on the job is the
failure to seek legal advice at once. Worker's Compensation only
allows you to recover for an on-the-job accident, which means
you must be physically injured in order to recover lost wages.
Remember that both your employer and their insurance company would
prefer not to pay your benefits.
What do you
need to do if you are injured on the job?
· Report injury to your supervisor
· Ask for medical attention if needed
· Contact your attorney
You are entitled
to compensation for your medical bills. In addition, you may receive
an award for permanent scarring in visible areas. Temporary or
total disability compensation is usually around two thirds of
your normal income. Depending on your impairment rating as determined
by a physician, you may also receive a permanent disability award.
Occupational
diseases are covered if caused by a condition of employment. Dependents
of employees fatally injured on the job may also be eligible for
benefits.
Worker's Compensation
is a state plan regulated by legal statutes. If you fail to give
your employer notice within certain legal time limits, you may
lose your right to compensation and/or benefits.
When we accept
a case, we collect attorney's fees and suit expenses out of the
funds collected.
